Depending on your support needs, fully qualified staff provide support around the clock or for just a few hours a day, we can work with you to design a support program that suits your needs.
Short Term Accommodation (STA)
Short Term Accommodation, including respite, is support for when you need to live out of home for a short period.
Short Term Accommodation funding can be used for respite to support you and your carers. This gives your carers a short break from their caring role.
Sometimes a short stay away from home:
- gives you the chance to try new things
- can be a place to make new friends or develop new skills
- may help to maintain your current living situation by giving your informal support a break.
- may suit your needs if your usual support network isn’t available for a short period.
Short Term Accommodation includes:
- personal care
- accommodation
- food
- activities you and the provider agree to.
Usually, the NDIS fund up to 28 days of Short Term Accommodation per year. You can use your Short Term Accommodation funding flexibly. For example, you might want to use it in a block of up to 14 days at a time or for one weekend a month.
Medium Term Accommodation (MTA)
Medium term accommodation is one of the home and living supports the NDIS may fund. It’s funding for somewhere to live if you can’t move into your long term home because your disability supports aren’t ready.
Medium term accommodation isn’t standalone support. The NDIS only include it in your plan as part of your other home and living support needs. They generally fund medium term accommodation for up to 90 days.
Funding for medium term accommodation only covers the cost of the accommodation for the time you stay there. It’s a temporary and extra cost you have due to your disability support needs.
For example, you might need medium term accommodation while you wait for your home modifications to be completed. Or you’ve already secured a long term home, such as Specialist Disability Accommodation, but you’re waiting for another person to move out before you can move in.
Funding for medium term accommodation doesn’t include day-to-day living costs like food, internet, or electricity. It also doesn’t include any personal care supports, or other supports you get in your home. We fund other disability supports separately if you need them while you stay in medium term accommodation
Independent Living Option (ILO)
An Independent Living Option (ILO) is an NDIS support that lets you choose the home you live in and set up supports in the way that best suits you. An ILO is a package of support that can help you live how you want in the home environment you have chosen. It’s not the home itself.
ILO supports let you work out how you want to live, where you live and who you live with. There are lots of choices with ILO. You can share your home with friends or housemates. Or you might a Host arrangement or on your own with tailored support.
ILOs are funded in two parts. The first stage is all about exploring and designing the supports you would like. This will help you work out where you want to live, who with, what support you would need and to who you want to provide that support.
The second stage is funding to put those supports in place. The supports depend on how and where you want to live and what you need. You can also include the support you get from friends and family, so everything works together how you want it to. The ILO support package can be changed if your needs change and will be designed to provide the safety, stability, and flexibility you need.
